The collection consists of a scrapbook-journal, 1863-1905, concerning his career and experiences in the navy, including accounts of two cruises of the United States gunboat Reindeer up the Cumberland River in 1863-1864, the Confederate attack on Nashville in 1864, comments and descriptions of life in Japan and China ca. 1880, newspaper clippings, photographs, etc.; and a volume of official lettes and orders received, 1863-1905, in connection with his work as paymaster for the U.S. Navy.
